The focus of this issue is "credibility" - the subject of my feature article. The meaning of "credible" is -
  • believable
  • convincing
  • realistic
  • probable
  • reliable

As writers, we should constantly challenge ourselves while we are writing and editing our work to ensure the events and the content in our books, stories and articles are "credible". You can suspend disbelief some of the time, but not all of the time.

With non-fiction, your facts must be accurate if you are to achieve credibility. Research is important, as is knowing the subject matter you are writing about.

It is important to find a balance when dealing with fiction and credibility and also with fact and credibility. As you contemplate your next writing project (fiction or non-fiction), put some thought into the credibility factor and you'll ensure a more effective outcome.
