We've decided to give our readers "more for their money" when the buy a Livewire new millennium romance novel.

In each of our books in all lines (except Love Sequels), we'll be publishing a short, romantic fiction story at the back. Authors will be paid on a royalty basis with a further opportunity to be part of our e-book short fiction anthologies.

We believe this opens up a new market for short, romantic fiction not otherwise available.

Once you feel ready to write with a serious view to submitting to a publisher, you need to move into "marketing mode". This involves not writing what you want, how you want. You'll need to adapt to what the market wants - or what a particular publisher is likely to view seriously. This involves:

• Deciding which publisher suits your writing style and focus;
• Understanding that publisher's guidelines, technical and submission requirements;
• Planning your novel to fit those guidelines and requirements as closely as possible;
• Writing the novel or story using the techniques recommended by the publisher;
• Doing more re-writing and editing than "actual writing" so your work is of a high standard;
• Selling your story idea to the publisher with a marketing-style synopsis and, if required for initial submission, a brilliant partial manuscript.
